Volanno Launches Transportation Academy to Train the Next Generation of Industry Leaders

Washington, D.C., April 2025 — Volanno, a leader in transportation technology and innovation, is proud to announce the launch of the Volanno Transportation Academy (VTA) — a new 10-week, full-time, paid internship program designed to give students hands-on experience addressing the real-world challenges facing the transportation industry.

Through the Volanno Transportation Academy, participants will gain direct exposure to aviation, rail, and local transit operations through curated site visits, mentorship by industry experts, and project-based learning. Interns will choose one of three tracks — Project Management, Entrepreneurship, or Technology — and work on a focused project that addresses a transportation need.

“Our goal is to equip students with the technical, analytical, and business skills needed to lead the future of transportation,” said Dawn Amore, CEO of Volanno. “The Academy reflects Volanno’s commitment to innovation, mentorship, and solving the complex challenges of today's mobility systems.”

Ankush Karnik, Program Manager at Volanno, and Adjunct Professor of Project Management, New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) stated “Transportation project management requires a unique skill set. Unlike other industries, we’re often working on complex systems that can’t simply be shut down — they're operating 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Success demands not just technical expertise, but careful coordination, real-time risk management, and a deep understanding of operational continuity. Through the Volanno Transportation Academy, we’re helping students build the skills to thrive in this challenging, dynamic environment.”

Key features of the program include:

  • Customer Site Visits: Explore operations at aviation facilities, rail maintenance centers, and public transit agencies.
  • Hands-on Projects: Work on solving a real transportation problem aligned with Volanno’s strategic initiatives.
  • Mentorship: Learn directly from Volanno team members and industry leaders through structured guidance and professional development sessions.
  • Focused Learning Tracks: Build expertise in Project Management, Entrepreneurship, or Technology based on your career interests.

The inaugural class of the Volanno Transportation Academy will begin in summer 2025. The program is open to qualified students with an interest in technology, innovation, and transportation systems. Interns will receive compensation and will have the opportunity to showcase their work to transportation leaders at the end of the program. Applications are due by May 15th for Summer 2025.
